Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
UpdateOne is a simple UK‑focused directory that helps you find the official pages for updating your address with government, utilities, communications and financial services. We operate with a privacy‑first mindset and deliberately avoid collecting unnecessary personal data.
2. Scope of this Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what (limited) information we collect, how we use it, your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and how to contact us. It applies only to this website. Once you follow a link to a third‑party site (e.g. HMRC, DVLA, your bank or utility provider) their own privacy notices apply.
3. What We Do Not Collect
- No account registration (we don’t create user profiles).
- No address details, identity documents or form data for third‑party services.
- No behavioural advertising trackers.
- No analytics scripts are currently in use (if this changes we will update this page first).
4. Information We Do Collect
We collect and process only what is necessary to operate the site or respond to you:
- Email sent directly: If you email us, we receive the data you include (typically your email address, name and message).
- Local preferences: Your dark mode preference is stored locally in your browser using
localStorage
. This never leaves your device. - Basic server/hosting logs (if applicable): Standard, ephemeral logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) may be generated by the hosting platform purely for security, reliability and abuse prevention. We do not build profiles from these.
5. Legal Bases for Processing
- Legitimate Interests: Responding to your enquiries; ensuring site security and reliability.
- Consent: Only where you voluntarily provide information (e.g. submitting the contact form). You can withdraw consent by emailing us.
6. How We Use Your Information
- To read and respond to enquiries you send.
- To troubleshoot or improve basic site functionality.
- To maintain security and prevent abuse (via standard hosting logs).
We do not sell or rent your data. We do not use your details for unrelated marketing.
7. Data Retention
Contact emails are retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for a short audit/reference period (currently assumed up to 12 months) unless you ask us to erase earlier (subject to any legal obligations). Local dark mode preferences stay in your browser until you clear them.
If you prefer a different retention period, let us know and we will adjust this section.
8. Sharing & Third Parties
- FormSubmit: Relays contact form submissions to our email. Their processing is limited to transmission. See their site for details.
- Hosting provider: Your request may be processed by our hosting/CDN for content delivery and security (e.g. caching, DDoS mitigation).
We do not otherwise disclose personal data unless required by law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
9. Cookies & Local Storage
We do not set traditional tracking cookies. We use only a local preference key (e.g. darkMode
) stored via your browser’s localStorage API. This is not transmitted to our servers.
10. Security
We use industry‑standard security practices proportionate to a static directory site (e.g. HTTPS, limited data surface, no user accounts). Transmission of information over the internet is never 100% risk‑free, so you should avoid including sensitive personal or financial data in open messages to us.
11. Your Rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to request: (a) access to the personal data we hold about you; (b) correction of inaccuracies; (c) erasure (where applicable); (d) restriction or objection to processing; (e) data portability (where applicable). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/.
To exercise any rights, email: updateone.address@gmail.com. We may need to verify identity for certain requests.
12. International Transfers
We do not intentionally transfer your personal data outside the UK/EEA. If any sub‑processor (e.g. hosting or FormSubmit) uses infrastructure outside these regions, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses) made available by those providers.
13. Third‑Party Links & Non‑Affiliation
Links on this site lead to third‑party organisations (e.g. HMRC, DVLA, banks, utilities). We are not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Visiting their sites is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if our data practices change. The “Last updated” date below will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted for a reasonable period.
